Recognizing that I strongly dislike cleaning and organizing a refrigerator, I decided long ago that prevention was the best medicine, so I tried putting less in the refrigerator. This refers to buying those items you anticipate using up before an expiration date, prior to unusual formations appearing either on the items or on the fridge or purchasing only what you need for particular recipes. This has worked beautifully, except when my kids were younger we all thought I was supposed to feed at least a third of the neighborhood, keeping their favorite snacks handy as well as our own, but then these disappeared fairly quickly. With these thoughts in mind and a few others along the way, let’s return that “cold box” to showroom condition. (more…)
