Partying With Blue Smoke Salsa
Wednesday, January 7th, 2009
A perk of running a recipe website is that you get to sample products regularly. I have reviewed many cooking and recipe books and tasted many products. Recently I was able to sample salsa from Blue Smoke Salsa. As luck would have it, I actually received their package two days before a party we were having.
The sample package included: Blue Smoke Salsa Peach Salsa, Blue Smoke Salsa South of the Border Salsa, Blue Smoke Salsa Medium Salsa, and Blue Smoke Salsa Triple-X Hot Salsa as well as a couple different types of chips to dip with. I have not opened the Triple-X Hot Salsa yet because there are a couple friends of mine that I am saving that for, but all of the other jars were finished at the party. We had a few kinds of Tostitos chips at the party to allow everyone to get a chance to try each salsa on many types of chips.
The first salsa opened was the South of the Border Salsa. South of the Border is a basic salsa labeled as “Medium” by Blue Smoke. They bill this is a “mildly wild cilantro salsa” with only fresh ingredients, nothing frozen or dehydrated. And as with all of their salsa, there is no added salt. It is a nice salsa. I’m not sure if I would go out of my way to buy it, but I would surely pick it up at the store if I see it. Basic, tasty, nice salsa.
To offer some variety, we also opened their Medium salsa as a starter. True to their description, the medium salsa has a slight sweet taste to it. Not overdone for a medium salsa, but noticeable. They indicate the sweetness comes from sweet onions and not sugar (that’s good). This is a salsa I would spend a little time looking for. I personally liked the sweet undertone after the initial surprise, especially given that it had a respectable kick to it.
After the South of the Border and Medium salsa were pretty much finished, I pulled out the Peach Salsa. I was very hestitant about this one. Peaches in salsa? Not something I anticipated really caring for. Wow, was I wrong. This Peach Salsa was a big hit. My wife, who likes basic salsa and does not stray too much from the party line, raves about this salsa. We will be buying the Blue Smoke Salsa Peach Salsa, and if you like fruity type salsas, I feel comfortable recommending you give it a try.
I am actually not sure if you can buy Blue Smoke salsa in any grocery store chains, but I know you can get it on the Blue Smoke Salsa website. I will be sure to put another post out once we open the Triple-X salsa.
Oh I almost forgot… the party AND the salsa were both big hits!
