Artificial Sweeteners: Why You Should Avoid Them Altogether

Wednesday, May 16th, 2012

These days, it seems that artificial sweeteners are making a lot of headlines, and for all the wrong reasons. Artificial sweeteners are a common constituent in diet and so-called “health” foods, but actually appear to work against good health, and in a number of ways. If you ingest artificial sweeteners on a regular basis, then you need to rethink your food and drink choices. Need some convincing? Here is more about artificial sweeteners and why you should avoid them altogether:

What are artificial sweeteners? Well, just like the name suggests, artificial sweeteners are food flavorings that are created in a lab – or, “sugar substitutes.” They include things like saccharin, aspartame, processed stevia preparations, neotame, sucralose, and acesulfamine potassium – or brand names Splenda, Equal, Sweet ‘n Low, Nutrasweet, and Splenda, among others. Also, many people tend to eat full meals and then throw in some unhealthy snacks, but they could just as easily cut out the extra calories and cost.

Make Potato Latkes for Hanukah

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

Potato Latkes are a popular holiday favorite for Hanukah. These crispy potato pancakes are enjoyed by both adults and children. Often served with either applesauce or sour cream.

The potato latkes are made at a high heat on your stove and are made very quickly. Once you start making them you realize just how quickly you’ll be able to create the potato latkes! They fry in a little oil in the pan on the stovetop.

It can take a little practice to make the “perfect” latke — that combination of a crispy outside and soft creamy potato inside. But it seems that everyone who tastes a potato latke simply falls in love with them at first bite!
