Flour Tortillas Recipe

Make your own tortilla's at home. Save and use them for your favorite Mexican recipe

Ingredients

  • 4 c All purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 ts Baking powder
  • 1 1/2 c Warm water
  • 1 1/2 ts Salt
  • 4 tb Lard or shortening

Directions

  1. Combine dry ingredients in a mixing bowl
  2. Cut in shortening
  3. Make a well in the center and add water, a small amount at a time, to form a dough
  4. Knead dough in bowl until smooth and elastic
  5. Cover and wet aside for ten minutes
  6. Form dough into egg-sized balls and flatter between palms
  7. With rolling pin, roll each ball into a 6 inch circle, about 1/8 inch thick
  8. Cook on preheated ungreased skillet over medium high heat, about 2 minutes per side, until tortilla looks slightly speckled
  9. Cover with a clean towel to keep warm and soft until served
  10. The tortillas may be cooled and stored in plastic bags in the freezer for later use.
