Tuna okonomiyaki Recipe

This is the homemade version of one of Japan's favorite snack recipes

Ingredients

  • 1/2 head of Cabbage
  • 1 can of tuna
  • 1 egg
  • Katsu boshi
  • Cornstarch / Flour / Okonomiyaki powder
  • Okonomiyaki sauce
  • Mayonnaise (preferably Japanese mayonnaise)
  • Pepper
  • Salt

Directions

  1. Slice the cabbage into small shreds.
  2. Wash and put aside.
  3. Then, beat the egg together with the cornstarch / flour / okonomiyaki powder.
  4. Make sure that you put enough of cornstarch / flour / okonomiyaki powder to be able to hold the cabbage shreds together. Put a little salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Mix one can of tuna and the shredded cabbage to the egg mixture.
  6. Put small amounts of the shredded cabbage in the pan and form it into small circles to look like pancakes.
  7. Make sure that you will be able to turn it properly.
  8. If the shredded cabbage does not hold firm, you may need to add more cornstarch / flour / okonomiyaki powder to the mixture.
  9. Remove from the pan when the cabbage turns slightly brown.
  10. Put okonomiyaki sauce, mayonnaise and katsu boshi.
  11. Serve while hot!
