Applesauce Cocoa Bread Recipe
Applesauce keeps this chocolate bread moist, and the vanilla glaze makes it extra sweet.

Ingredients
- 1 2/3 cups flour
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Dash of ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup applesauce
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans
- Vanilla Glaze
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease bottom only of 9 x 5-inch loaf pan.
- In large bowl, stir together flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Add shortening, eggs and applesauce; beat just until blended. Stir in pecans. Spoon mixture into prepared pan. Bake 50 to 55 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.
- Cool 15 minutes; remove from pan to wire rack. Cool completely. Prepare Vanilla Glaze; drizzle over bread.
- Vanilla Glaze
1/2 cup confectioners' sugar
3 to 4 teaspoons milk - In a small bowl, stir together confectioners' sugar and milk. Yields 1/4 cup glaze.
