Hot and Spicy Chili Recipe

Share this recipe on Facebook Share this recipe on Twitter

Fixing up a spicy chili recipe is one of our favorite things to do on Saturday or Sunday afternoons in the fall. Watching college or pro football with a bowl of chili with all of the fixin's and a cold beverage of choice always equated to good family time. Of course you can always take the spice level to what ever your comfort level is by adding additional chili peppers or extra cumin. Just keep it to a level that is good to taste as well as spicy.

Ingredients

  • 1 Can tomato paste (12oz)
  • 1 Can tomato sauce (16oz)
  • 3 Cans kidney beans (15oz each) rinsed and drained
  • 6 T garlic powder
  • 3 T onion powder
  • 2 T ground cumin
  • 2 T parsley
  • 2 t oregano
  • 1/2 t salt
  • 1/2 t ground black pepper
  • 2 T chili powder
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 4 habanero peppers (seeded and chopped)
  • 6 jalapeno peppers (seeded and chopped)
  • 1 lb sirloin steak
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 can beer (optional)

Directions

  1. Saute chopped onions in 1tablespoon of olive oil in large pot until translucent, just a few minutes.
  2. Add remaining ingredients with the exception of sirloin and ground beef, mixing well. Simmer on low heat.
  3. In a separate skillet, brown sirloin and ground beef. Cut sirloin into small pieces and add both sirloin and ground beef to the simmering spices mixture.
  4. Pour in the half can of beer if desired and simmer mixture on low for 30 minutes.
  5. Serve with shredded cheddar cheese, chopped onions, and sour cream as desired.
