Sweet and Sour Red Cabbage Recipe

Lots of flavor in this cabbage recipe

Ingredients

  • 1/4 c Butter
  • 4 Medium Apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1/2 Red Onion, Chopped
  • 1 Red Cabbage head, finely shredded
  • 1 c Red Wine
  • 4 Cloves; Whole
  • 1/3 c Brown Sugar
  • 2 Bay Leaves
  • 1/4 c Vinegar
  • 1/4 c Butter
  • Lemon Juice equivalent to 1/2 medium lemon

Directions

  1. Melt butter in 4-quart Dutch oven
  2. Add apples and onions, saute slightly
  3. Add finely shredded cabbage, red wine, cloves, sugar, and bay leaves
  4. Simmer, covered, for 1 hour, then add the remaining ingredients
  5. Heat to melt the butter and serve immediately.
