Split Pea Soup Recipe

Great soup recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Smithfield Ham, bits/pieces
  • 1 Large Onion, chopped
  • 1 gallon Water
  • 2 lb Split Peas
  • 3 Large Carrots, chopped fine
  • 2 Celery Stalks w/ leaves

Directions

  1. Separate fat from meat
  2. Fry fat in soup pan
  3. When crisp, discard solids
  4. Fry onion in the fat
  5. Add lean ham pieces and stir a couple minutes to get a consistent mix
  6. Add water, peas, carrots, and celery (center portion with leaves, chopped fine)
  7. Cover and cook slowly until peas are mushy
  8. Do not puree.
