Spaghetti and Meatballs Recipe

Makes a good main course

Ingredients

  • 1 really large onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped fine
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 2 cans( 10 3/4oz) tomatoe puree
  • 1 can( 14 1/2oz) stewed tomatoes pureed in the blender
  • 2 cans (6oz) tomatoe paste
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • MEATBALLS
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 3/4 cup finely crushed saltines
  • 4 eggs, beaten
  • 2 garlic cloves, chopped fine
  • 3 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon dried Oregano
  • Hot cooked spaghetti

Directions

  1. In a large pan, saute onion and garlic in oil till tender.
  2. Add the next seven ingredients: mix well
  3. Simmer uncovered for 1 1/2 hours.
  4. Meanwhile, combine ground beef and cracker crumbs in a large bowl.
  5. Add the eggs, garlic Parmesan cheese and oregano. Mix well.
  6. Shape into 1 1/2 inch balls.
  7. Brown in a skillet.
  8. Add to sauce and simmer uncovered for 1 1/2 hours longer.
  9. Serve over Hot cooked spaghetti.
